Types of Handleless Kitchen in NYC

This once unpopular design feature has made its way into home design trends all over, fueled by the demands of contemporary style and the need to maximize space.

Handle-less kitchens in NYC are extremely versatile and come in many options you will have to see to believe.

By European terminology, to be a true handle-less kitchen, the cabinets must accept a continuous aluminum grip rail inserted throughout an entire row of cabinetry. This can help reduce finger prints since you are grabbing behind the door instead of grabbing a handle attached to the front. Such systems are only be made in advanced factories like those of top European kitchen manufacturers like Leicht and Nobilia.

These handle-less kitchens create a seamless flow of kitchen units that is clean, clutter-free and chic. Handle-less kitchens in NYC add a minimalist appeal to your home that also maximizes space and reduces unnecessary sources of scrapes and bruises.

Not only can you have drawers and cabinets that are handle-less but you can have full wall to wall cabinetry to create a seamless place for extra storage.

In addition to hidden grip rails, there area  variety of other cabinet opening options that do no require visible handles. There are a number of cabinet opening mechanisms that do not require for you to pull on your drawers or cabinets at all! There are both mechanical and electrical systems that allow for the opening of your cabinets with a simple press of a button. There are also systems that allow you to open a drawer simply by pushing the cabinet face inward. In addition to giving you a clean surface, this option allows you to open your drawer or cabinet without the use of your hands, allowing you to do more with your kitchen with less effort.

To learn more about our handle-less kitchens or view our other kitchen designs, come explore our showroom at German Kitchen Center or contact us at (888) 209-5240.

Kitchen Contractor in NYC

Working with a good contractor is critical for the success of your kitchen remodeling project! The best way to find a good contractor is through a recommendation, but if you don’t have one, here are some ways to check your contractor’s qualifications:
•Ask for references

Word of mouth is hands down the best way to find a qualified professional to tackle the job. Ask relatives, friends and neighbors which contractor they've had good experiences with, and ask what made it a positive experience. Be sure that you understand how their contractor handled problems and whether he or she would use the same contractor again. At the German Kitchen Center, we have plenty of recommended contractors we've worked with previously that we stand by.

Other ways to look for a qualified contractor include:

•Ask to see photos and/ or see actual completed projects

This way you will get to see a little of their work.

•Check online reviews

These are a reliable source for reviews from people who have used these contractors previously. It is good to see  if they have satisfied clients.

•Check for Consumer Affairs licenses and records

•Confirm the correct paperwork is in place including all licenses, liability and worker’s comp insurance

•Ask the contractor about his operation, who is involved, how many projects are going on simultaneously, how many employees, trucks, etc…

You may want to compare pricing from more than one contractor, but if you find a person you feel is capable and the price works with your budget it might not be necessary to get more proposals.

Contractors’ pricing depends on how much work they have. Keep in mind that you may find significant differences in price between different contractors as this is not a price regulated industry. Naturally, reputable contractors are busier and are likely to be more expensive.

There are 4 main types of general contractors we identified which are suitable for residential remodeling projects:

•Full service contracting firms – These are firms which often have a showroom where you can purchase products and have a more established operation including a back office and project managers. This service is very convenient, but may cost as much as double the actual contracting cost due to the higher overhead.

•High end contractors – These are contractors who are reputable and usually the owner is quite good at dealing with homeowners, creating proposals and managing employees. This is often a good option, but is usually more expensive than the market price of contracting.

•Hands on contractors – There are many contractors who are working with their own hands with a small crew which could be great at actually getting the job done, but may not have a sales and marketing operation. It may be tough to find such a contractor, but if you do, this is usually the best value, because you will not be paying extra for additional overhead or reputation.

•Subcontractors – This is usually not a great option, but if you want to act as your own General Contractor you can hire individual subcontractors on your own like a plumber, electrician, tile man, etc… This option is not recommended at all since usually it does not  save time or money in the long run.

Enhance Your Kitchen, Enhance Your Life

Kitchen by Nobilia
Your kitchen can be the most important room in your house. No other room sees so much use or is used for so much. Your Kitchen is where your family shares the start of the day. It’s where you bond with your friends over crudités and glasses of wine. It’s where you sneak in a pint of ice cream at night when no one else is looking. In short, the kitchen is where you go to find the textures and flavors that add sweetness to your life, but it’s crucial for a kitchen to be properly designed in order to do all it can for you.

Kitchen Drawers by Leicht
The frustration with a conventional kitchen is that the more you try to do with it, the more difficult it becomes to get anything done.  Every new knife, blender, whisk or spice you bring into your kitchen, takes up space on your counter top and in your cabinets, eventually creating unmanageable chaos. Instead of attempting that new recipe you’ve been aching to try, you are wasting your time shuffling everything on and off your counter just to clear enough space to work. Trying to solve the problem with cheap-looking plastic containers and organizers simply adds more clutter and distracts from the shape and beauty of the room. Is there a way to do more with your kitchen in a way that actually makes your life easier?

The answer to that question is “yes.”

The German Kitchen Center’s kitchen designers can help you do more with your kitchen, whether you are using it for cooking, entertaining or simply relaxing. You will be better able to add more tools to your culinary toolbox while using less space.

Kitchen Drawers by Team 7
Think about what usually clutters your counter top. Plastic and aluminum wrapping containers in cheap cardboard boxes?  In perfectly engineered Modern Kitchen Cabinets, there are now dedicated spools for them in your drawers, removed from sight. Is that wooden knife block occupying too much space? A wood block drawer can safely tuck your knives away while still protecting their edges. Your countertop, now free of clutter and distractions, can become a pure space for you to enjoy the art of cooking.

German Kitchen Center’s kitchen designers in NYC are there to allow you to do more with your kitchen, adding more usable space while greatly enhancing its visual appeal. Whether you have a tight cooking space or a large open expanse, German kitchen engineers have found cutting-edge solutions to shelving and storage that are sleekly designed to be both beautiful and practical, replacing the usual chaos of the kitchen with an atmosphere of balance and harmony. Your busiest room has become a sanctuary, one of life’s daily struggles has become a source of joy and release.

Dream Kitchens on Your Budget: Free Kitchen Design Consultation

Are you looking to remodel your kitchen and are interested in a free kitchen design consultation? At German Kitchen Center, our expert kitchen design team will work with you to design the kitchen of your dreams while staying within your budget. With customizable design solutions, you can rest assured that we will work with you to create a beautiful kitchen that you can afford.

Clients are often wary of remodeling their home with a custom kitchen because of the potential cost. But the beauty of a customized kitchen is that while it is designed and built exclusively to fit your space, you also have control over the cost of materials. This creates a great deal of flexibility in the total budget of the project.

There are many ways to reduce the cost of your dream kitchen. Let’s explore these in a little more detail.

Kitchen Finish
The finish choice for the kitchen is probably the biggest factor determining the price. And considering this, the easiest way to save a lot of money is to go with a laminate finish. Laminates have really evolved over the years, and the options available for kitchens today are anything but plain. Whether you prefer a solid color, a natural grain wood, or stone look, you might be amazed just how sophisticated a laminate finish can be when priced at entry level.

Laminates can even be designed to mimic textured finishes. An oak reproduction, for example, has knots and grooves you can actually feel. Many people find it impossible to tell the difference between a high quality laminate wood reproduction and the real thing. Similarly, lacquered cabinets are luxurious, but tend to run on the expensive side. You can choose a lacquer-like laminate for a silky smooth finish at a much lower price.

Countertops can also be finished with a high quality laminate in much the same way. An added bonus is that laminate is also very durable and performs well against staining, impact and heat.

Kitchen Cabinet Door Styles
The choice of cabinet door style also makes it quite easy to adjust the price. The general rule of thumb is that the simpler the door style is, the lower the price of cabinetry. Framed doors are beautiful but the extra details can significantly increase the cost. A flat door style is the least expensive option and can always be dressed up with an eye-catching color or a textured laminate without breaking the bank.

Choose Only the Add-ons Most Necessary
Many innovative storage options and cabinet functions can be added to a custom kitchen that service your daily needs. While very convenient, these high-tech enhancements can add up and raise the total cost quickly. Focus only on what you truly need the kitchen to do. For example, drawer organizers can be built from metal frames or plastic dividers instead of solid wood inserts. Lots of high end mechanics can make the cabinets especially fun to use, but regular hinged doors are just fine too.

Consider Mixing Materials
If you’ve just got to have that luxury touch to complete your dream kitchen, such as an authentic wood veneer, consider mixing higher cost finishes with more affordable ones. The expensive finish can be used on a more prominent area like the island or to accent certain cabinets. A more economical finish can be applied to the kitchen perimeter.

White Kitchens in NYC

Are you interested in white kitchens in NYC? At German Kitchen Center, we carry beautifully crafted white kitchens from leading European kitchen brands such as Nobilia, LEICHT and Team 7. Our expert kitchen designers will help you create the kitchen of our dreams from our vast selection of customizable design solutions.

Back in the 1920’s, white was pretty much the only cabinet color available. And for a generation recovering from a flu epidemic, this made sense because cleanliness was crucial. Today this trend endures, and not just for the sanitation factor. White kitchens match with many colors and have a peaceful, calming effect.

Here are a few things to consider for those planning a kitchen renovation this year to update their white kitchens in NYC:

Truly Modern White Kitchen
For the purist, a more contemporary white kitchen design looks crisp and pristine with smooth door fronts that are often handle-less. The kitchen can be planned with straight lined up cabinets along the walls and center for a streamlined look. Keep pure white cabinets on the kitchen perimeter. It will make the room feel more spacious and lets whatever is in the middle of the room shine. And on the topic of “shine”, a high gloss finish is loved by many modern kitchen owners. It gives the slab doors a mirror-like effect, making the whole kitchen sparkle.

If you opt for a fully white kitchen, there are a few ways to give it some dynamic in the absence of color. Adding lighting to the back-splash, toe kick and within cabinets warms up the palette a bit. Consider strategically adding shelves and open cabinet boxes. This adds a perfect backdrop to add color with pottery, books, glassware and art.

Modern White Kitchen With Traditional Elements
If you are making the transition from a traditional to modern white kitchen, maybe the best solution would be to meet in the middle. Using a cottage shaker-style door lends a subtle traditional element to the white kitchen. The cabinets can also be fitted with handles for a softer look than a handle-less front.

A matte finish is also preferable for those more comfortable in familiar territory, as opposed to glossy cabinets. And if a pure white finish seems too overwhelming, you can opt for a more muted off-white tone.

White Kitchen With Colored Accents
Create an interplay by accenting plain white cabinets with another color or wood finish, or even stone for something extra unique. This works particularly well in modern kitchens because design elements are so simple, allowing the color to really stand out. You can add a textured back-splash, counter and end panels in a wood or stone look. Or you can finish some cabinets in a contrasting color. Sometimes it can be a really nice effect to have all white cabinets against the wall in white with a center island featuring a different hue.

Since white shows dirt so easily, your cabinets need to be of solid construction and finished in a material which is easy to clean. Nobilia, the leading German cabinet manufacturer, is known for their extensive quality tests on all finishes. Only cabinets which have passed strict testing against common household chemicals are deemed appropriate for sale.
